YOU HAVE QUESTIONS. WE HAVE ANSWERS.

Do I have to wait for my policy to renew before I can switch companies?

No, you're allowed to cancel your policy at any time. This is a common misconception amongst policy holders, however, you have the ability to cancel or switch companies at any time.

Should I contact my agent when my mortgage changes?

Yes, you should always contact your agent anytime there are changes to your mortgage to ensure there is not an interruption with your coverage.

I just paid off my mortgage, what is my next step?

Once you have paid off a mortgage, it is extremely important to contact your agent ASAP and have them update your policy so that the mortgagee can be removed. Failing to do so will result in a lot of headache when you need to file a claim.

If I switch insurance companies, do I need to let my previous company know that I am cancelling?

Absolutely! It is very important to let your former agency know that you are cancelling your policy, otherwise, they may not be aware and could continue charging for your original policy.

Do I get reimbursed if I cancel my policy before the term is complete?

If you cancel a policy during the middle of the term, there is a good possibility you could be entitled to a refund, however, it is very important for you as the insured to make sure that you follow up with your previous company to ensure you know what amount is owed to you and that they have updated contact information so you're able to recieve the payment.

How do I prevent my policy from lapsing?

This is a question we get often because other agencies don't always explain the process to their clients. Basically what it comes down to is that you first have to identify what type of payment plan you're on. If you pay in full for your policy up front, then you're most likely not set up for auto renewal. If you opt to pay for your policy in monthly payments, then its most likely that you are set up for auto renewal. Either way, this is something you want to always make sure to have a clear understanding of and discuss with your agent when you first obtain the policy to make sure that youre coverage never lapses.
